WFZO joined technology leaders, governments and zone operators in Abu Dhabi to explore the latest trends in artificial intelligence and to build new connections across the AI ecosystem.
Abu Dhabi, UAE – 9 October 2026: A team from the World Free Zones Organization (WFZO) took part in AI Everything Abu Dhabi, held on 6–7 October 2026 at the ADNEC Centre. Hosted by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Government Enablement, the event brought together government leaders, global technology companies, start-ups and investors to discuss how AI is moving from experimentation into everyday operations.
The WFZO team, drawn from its digital and partnerships functions, attended with two goals: to learn about new trends and technologies in AI that can strengthen the Organization’s own platforms and services, and to connect with companies and institutions shaping the future of AI in trade, government and economic zones.
Learning from the latest in AI
Across two days, the team took part in summit sessions, hands-on workshops and masterclasses covering agentic AI, AI governance, open and on-device AI models, quantum-inspired computing and the energy demands of AI infrastructure. Key themes included:
• Redesign the work, not just the tools. The biggest gains come from rethinking processes around AI, rather than adding AI to existing steps.
• Trustworthy AI agents. AI agents perform best with a clearly defined task, approved sources of information and a person who reviews their work before anything is acted on.
• Capability over hardware. Data readiness, skills, clear ownership and good governance determine whether AI investment delivers real value.
• Looking beyond the price tag. Organizations are encouraged to assess the full lifecycle cost of AI, including usage, data, maintenance and language.
• Smaller, more accessible models. Open and compact AI models are making advanced capabilities more affordable and easier to run locally, while energy is emerging as a key constraint on growth.
Connecting with the AI ecosystem
On the exhibition floor, the team met technology providers, consultancies, government entities and economic zone operators. The strong presence of ports and economic zones authorities among the event’s sponsors and partners underlined how central AI has become to the zone community.
These conversations open the door to future collaboration, knowledge exchange and partnerships, including ahead of the 12th WFZO World Congress at Dominican Republic in May 2027.
Bringing the insights home
The knowledge gained at AI Everything Abu Dhabi will inform WFZO’s digital transformation work and its continued efforts to share practical, relevant insights on emerging technologies with its members worldwide.
